Pre-Formed Millwork™
is designed to be used for Architectural Enhancements (decorative design)
purposes, not structural or support uses.
Pre-Formed Millwork™ does not splinter or split, since it does
not have a “grain”. It cuts, saws and drills with greater
precision than wood, with standard hand tools. The product in general
is installed the same as any premium wood trim of similar size and shape.
Installers should use their own professionalism and experience to insure
a proper fit. The use of non-solvent construction adhesives and rust
proof mechanical fasteners is recommended. We suggest the use of a non-solvent
Polyurethane Construction Adhesive for best results.
Screw heads and nail holes should be filled with non-shrinking (non-solvent)
wood fillers or even automotive body fillers.
Finishing
Pre-Formed Millwork™
is molded of high-density polyurethane foam. During the molding process
an in mold barrier coat is applied, which contains an ultraviolet stabilizer.
This barrier coat becomes an integral part of the final product. After
each piece is removed from the mold it is trimmed, and a final primer
coat is applied. Minor touch up may be required prior to the application
of a finish coat of high quality latex paint. For ease of final painting
you may want to consider painting the millwork prior to installing and
then just touch-up the nail or screw holes.
Molding
Application
Pre-Formed Millwork™ products are manufactured to the highest
possible standards. Slight variations may occur from one piece of molding
to another. We suggest that you check the pattern and thickness of both
sections of molding which are being joined together. Should an adjustment
be necessary, reduce the thicker part by sanding the back of the molding
section to match thickness prior to installation.
Extreme temperature changes may cause a slight expansion or contraction,
causing a less than perfect fit. For this reason we highly recommend
the application of non-solvent construction adhesive to all joints.
Additionally, we recommend cutting moldings ¼" inch longer
than needed for every 10 feet and “snap” the moldings into
place.
Install on a solid backing utilizing screws or nails on studs at 16"
or less, also use a bead of construction adhesive on all joints. Be
sure to apply adequate adhesive to cover the cut edges. Wipe off any
excess adhesive immediately before it sets.
Due to their large size and various angles, some molding styles may
require additional care during installation. Inconsistencies in the
wall surface may require additional sanding or shimming for proper alignment.
Always check joints before fastening to ensure proper fit.
Sizing
Pre-Formed Millwork™
is molded to the highest possible standard, some variations may occur.
All catalog dimensions are based on averages of parts mea-sured, product
dimensions may vary slightly. If you have any questions concerning dimensions
of a specific piece, please contact our technical-engineering department.

Louver Application
(How to determine the opening coverage)
For open louvers (screen backed) applied to sheathing, use the louver
as a template to create a rough opening are slightly smaller (2"
less than the louver dimension) opening. Attach the louver with non-corrosive
mechanical fasteners and non-solvent construction adhesives. Caulk all
around outside of louver to prevent moisture infiltration.
For decorative (closed) louvers, apply to brick or siding using the
same method as with entry systems. All louvers may be routed for siding.

Window Trim Applications
All window crossheads and mantels are measured form the breast-board
length dimension.
Window headers, mantels, sunbursts and panels are applied to brick
or siding following the same general procedures as with entry
systems. Use non-corrosive mechanical fasteners and non-solvent
construction adhesives. Many items are available routed for siding,
please check the catalog or with customer service.

Most
Arches are made with a 4" leg extension to permit trimming
for a precise fit on the job site. Matching straight moldings
are available.
For half circle arches ( 180° ) fit flush against the finished
exterior surface. The matching straight moldings should butt under
the arch and may be adjusted to fit. The moldings can be trimmed
to the correct height and may be applied over masonry, wood, metal
or vinyl siding surfaces. To apply large arches, mark the center-line
on the window and copy it onto the arch. To insure tight fit,
slightly oversize and sand the arch ends, using construction adhesives
at the center joint and where the arch butts the vertical molding.
Keystones are available for most arches.
Installing
Entry Systems
All crossheads and pediments lie flush against
the finished exterior surface. Pilasters should butt under the
head piece and may be adjusted to fit narrow door jamb configurations.
The pilasters can be trimmed to the correct height (cut on the
bottom only) and may be applied over masonry, wood, metal or vinyl
siding surfaces. They are installed simply with nails or screws
and construction adhesive. Caulk where necessary
Measuring Points
Measure distance between pilasters (dimension A) allowing for
special requirements like out-swinging doors and position of pilasters
with brickmold on door frame. Measure the outside of pilasters
(dimension B) for crosshead dimension.
1. Measure the desired height of the pilaster.
This is the distance from the floor surface or landing to the
top of the door. Be certain to include the height of any extension
above the door or transom window. If the height is over 90",
pilaster with an adjustable plinth block must be used.
2. Temporarily, place the pilasters in the desired
position at the door opening. Make sure they are cut to the proper
height. Should they need cutting, cut at the bottom, not at the
top of the pilaster. Fasten the pilasters to the exterior surface
of the structure.
3. Allow for the thickness of the brickmold,
if it is present around the door opening, using non-corrosive
fasteners (nails or screws) and adhesive to fasten the pediment
or crosshead to the structural surface or siding. Caulk where
necessary to prevent moisture infiltration.
Decorative
Accents Installation
For balls, urns and brackets, attach with nails or screws and
construction adhesives. For brick applications, use masonry screws.
